Ending the Uncertainties of Posted Workers12.39.01pm BST (GMT +0100) Thu 26th Oct 2006 EU laws covering the posting of workers should be implemented more effectively by the European Commission and Member States to help end the obstacles and uncertainties faced by workers when they are temporarily posted from one EU Member State to another according to Liberal Democrat European Employment spokesperson Liz Lynne MEP. Speaking from Strasbourg, Liz said: "We have a comprehensive EU laws covering what happens when a worker is posted to work in another country so there is no need for new legislation, but the European Commission and Member States have done little or nothing to implement existing laws" "Quite rightly we have been working to increase worker mobility within the union and this will only increase as Europe's service sector opens up, but with that comes a duty to ensure that workers are given clarity and better information about their rights and obligations if they are posted abroad" "Too often workers feel left in a limbo between the employment rules of their home country and the country they are working in." Editor's Notes The report on the application of Directive 96/7/EC on the posting of workers (2006/2038(INI)) was voted on today by the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
