OVER 2.5 MILLION TAKE UP EU ADDRESS ON THE WEB12.00.00am BST (GMT +0100) Mon 16th Apr 2007 Local Lib Dem MEP Liz Lynne has welcomed the news that over 2.5 million EU citizens have taken up the opportunity to register a European address on the web. This April the .eu domain name celebrates its first year of being open to the public, with over 439,000 .eu addresses taken by UK citizens. Commenting in Brussels Liz said; "After just one year .eu has become a well-established part of Europe's cyberspace," "I hope that in the future registration become even swifter, safer and cheaper. The fact is that the majority of our trade is within the European Union and many West Midland's businesses and entrepreneurs now have an opportunity to use the domain name .eu to their benefit." Liz has continued her campaign to ensure improved accessibility to the internet: "Over 80% of websites in the EU are inaccessible for disabled people; this is a challenge we have to tackle if we are to build an inclusive society"
